Queen Creek student wins Junior Achievement award

A Queen Creek student has been named a Junior Achievement of Arizona’s “2023 18 under 18” winner.

Eighteen students are being honored for starting businesses and nonprofits, volunteering, and advocating for a cause. The students will receive their awards at a ceremony from 5-6:30 p.m., Thursday, April 27 at JA BizTown, 636 W. Southern Ave. in Tempe.

“Each year, we’re amazed by the next class of students,” said Katherine Cecala, CEO of Junior Achievement of Arizona, in a press release. “They advocate for causes, start nonprofits to help others in our community, work with their schools to bring new ideas and programs to their schools, care about the environment or advocate for causes. They all have bright futures and we’re honored to know them.”

Eighteen-year-old Queen Creek High School senior Isabella Serrano is one of the “2023 18 under 18” winners.

According to the press release, “Isabella is committed to serving her community through volunteering. Whether spearheading events for the Animal Welfare League and Pinal County Animal Shelter or sending toothbrushes to undeveloped countries around the world, Isabella is always looking for ways to make an impact.”

Junior Achievement of Arizona is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that helps “Arizona students to succeed in work and life by giving them the knowledge and skills they need to manage their money, plan for their future and make smart academic, career and economic choices.”
