Police seek 3 suspects in Glendale Westgate shooting

Glendale Police Department detectives continue to gather surveillance video relating to three male suspects involved in Monday’s shooting at Westgate.

Specifically, investigators are looking to get a better idea of the make, model and license tag of the car involved in the incident.

Just before 4 p.m. Monday, officers responded to the parking lot near Sunrise and Entertainment boulevards to a shots-fired call. When officers arrived, they found an 18-year-old male had been shot multiple times.

The man suffered critical but non-life-threatening injuries.

“We still know that we are looking for at least three male suspects. We do not have a better description to give out on those individuals either,” GPD Media Manager Jose Santiago updated Tuesday.

Police say the victim is conscious and alert and remains in critical condition.

“Since he is still being treated for his injuries, we have not been able to get a better description of who may be involved in this shooting,” Santiago noted.

The victim, along with a group of other males, was talking to individuals that were inside a light-colored sedan. At one point during the conversation, someone from inside the sedan began shooting at the male victim, investigators say.

The victim ran from the south portion of the parking lot to the northern portion of the parking lot. A passerby saw that the victim needed assistance and started to help him. The passerby witnessed the sedan leaving at a high rate of speed, and the same passerby pointed his weapon at the sedan.

No shots were fired by the passerby at the sedan.

Paramedics arrived shortly thereafter and transported the victim to a nearby hospital where he remains.

Police encourage anyone who saw, heard or has knowledge of this case to call GPD at 623-930-3000.

In 2022, Armando Hernandez Jr., was sentenced to 44 years after pleading guilty to a 2020 shooting at Westgate in which he carried an AR-15 assault rifle and three fully loaded magazines and walked almost the length of the entertainment district targeting people and/or couples his age. All three victims — ages 16, 19 and 30 — survived, and during the melee Hernandez live streamed some of it on social media.
