Police: Missing Rio Verde horseback rider found dead

Posted

A 58-year-old woman who went missing from the Rio Verde area near north Scottsdale while horseback riding has reportedly been found deceased, law enforcement officials say.

Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office says Jillian Underschultz was reported missing at 5:40 p.m. on March 9, after leaving her home on horseback that afternoon. About two hours later, Underschultz’s horse returned to the house without her, according to MCSO.

Law enforcement officials posted a missing persons flyer to social media after 8 a.m. on March 10, in which they described Underschultz typically riding her horse in the desert area around 144th Street and Hawknest Road.

About four hours later, Scottsdale Police spokesman Sgt. Kevin Quon confirmed to the Independent that Underschultz had been found deceased.

“We assisted MCSO with searching for the missing person. We were informed she was found deceased. All inquiries should be directed to MCSO,” Sgt. Quon said in response to an emailed inquiry.

MCSO officials confirmed the findings just before 4 p.m. March 10.

“Jillian has been located, unfortunately she was found deceased. There are no signs of foul play or any suspicious circumstances. MCSO detectives are investigating. This is all the information available for release at this time,” said Sgt. Monica Bretado in an emailed statement to media.
