Stacy Holmstedt will debut her first solo show ‘Saguaros & Shards’

The works of a Mesa-based artist will be on display in an upcoming exhibition at a Phoenix hotel.

“Saguaros & Shards,” by Stacy Holmstedt, will debut with an opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6 at FOUND:RE Phoenix Hotel, located at 1100 N. Central Ave. The exhibit will remain on display through Sunday, Dec. 31.

The space will also serve as a working studio for Holmstedt, who will be painting and mosaicking on a weekly basis throughout the duration of the show’s exhibition.

“We are thrilled to present Stacy’s contrasting mediums of acrylic paint and mosaics,” FOUND:RE Curator Jordan Zurn shared in a press release. “Regardless of medium, her vibrant art showcases such raw and natural talent.”

The Mesa-based artist calls her paintings her love letters to Arizona, while the Gemini in her also inspires her to pursue a dual passion of making mosaic artworks. The software designer by trade also credits night classes at Scottsdale Artists School and the Mesa Arts Center as well as her love of Arizona for her inspiration.

“Rather than creating consistently in the same style, I prefer experimentation. I like to work for months on a deep concentration piece, followed by a burst of loose gestural work,” she stated. “When I need a break from painting, I’ll make a mosaic out of glass, beads or buttons. When I tire of nipping glass, it’s back to the easel.”

“Saguaros & Shards” will open Oct. 6.
