Phoenix firefighter dies after battle with occupational cancer

A Phoenix firefighter is being remembered after he died from a battle with cancer.

Brian Beck Jr. died Sunday at age 31.

He was a third-generation firefighter in his eighth year with the Phoenix Fire Department. He worked mostly at Fire Station 33 in north Phoenix.

He is the second Phoenix firefighter who has died from a job-related cancer this year. He leaves behind a wife and three young children.

The Phoenix Fire Department is treating the loss of Mr. Beck as in the line of duty. Details of his services are still pending.

“Occupational cancer has proven to be the new epidemic we face in the fire service, far too many precious colleagues of ours have been lost to this relentless illness,” United Phoenix Firefighters stated. “Rest In Peace Brian, you have served your community with tremendous honor and will be greatly missed.”
