Phoenix Chorale to perform in Mesa in March 2022

The Phoenix Chorale’s 2021-22 season, reUNION, includes a 7:30 p.m. March 18, 2022 performance at First United Methodist Church, 15 E. First Ave. in Mesa.

Curated and led by Music Director Christopher Gabbitas, the performances mark the return of the Grammy-winning chorale to the concert stage, according to a release.

For 2021-22 the season includes a three-concert series of “A Chorale Christmas”; “re:Birth,” which will be performed at the Mesa event; and “SPEM: songs of hope and love.”

Season tickets go on sale Oct. 9 with “early bird” discounted pricing through Oct. 15. Subscription packages start at $129.

Single tickets range from $42-$45 and will go on sale at 10 a.m. Oct. 25 at phoenixchorale.org. Discounts for students, seniors and those currently serving in the military are available.

“re:Birth offers the chance to reflect on renewal and growth — both literally and metaphorically. This is the first concert of our “Phoenix Masterworks” programs, in each of which we intend to present a work that is indisputably a masterpiece of its genre. This year we shine the spotlight on Aaron Copland’s ‘In the Beginning.’ Also in this terrific program, prominent Phoenix musician and Chorale soprano Dr Kira Zeeman Rugen’s ‘Out of the Ash’ receives its world-premiere performance,” the release states.

About the Phoenix Chorale

The Grammy Award-winning Phoenix Chorale, founded in 1958, has a mission focused on building a vibrant community through song and enriching lives through choral artistry. Pre-pandemic, the chorale had been reaching more than 7,500 people each season through concerts and outreach events across the Phoenix metro-area. The chorale’s digital audience continues to grow with millions reached through broadcasts, performance videos, and streaming services, like Spotify, where the chorale maintains a listenership of over 35,000 fans each month, the release states..

Under the direction of Gabbitas, the 28-voice professional choir presents four thematic concert programs each season, with musical works spanning the last 500 years. New artistic initiatives include the Phoenix Masterworks Series, which features a large-scale choral work each season; and the Phoenix Commissions Project, a commitment to commissioning and premiering a new work every year.

The Phoenix Chorale, ensemble-in-residence at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in downtown Phoenix, is sponsored in part through grants, funding, and support from the Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture, Arizona Commission on the Arts and Trinity Episcopal Cathedral.
