Phoenix affordable housing project gets $500K in grants

Residences at Falcon Park one of $2 million total around state to get new funding

The Home Matters Arizona Fund, a funding resource formed by healthcare leaders across the state and Home Matters to Arizona to increase attainable housing, has announced new funding.

Projects in Phoenix, Flagstaff, Tempe, and Tucson will receive a total of $2 million.

Since 2020, the Home Matters Arizona Fund has provided $10.3 million through 24 grants, including this most recent announcement.

The Fund addresses Arizona’s rising affordability crisis while paying attention to the role of social determinants of health and housing as a quality-of-life issue, according to a press release. Housing built by these grants will serve Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS)-eligible individuals and families.

In Phoenix, Family Housing Community Development Corporation has received a $500,000 grant for the 192-unit Residences at Falcon Park project. With a total cost of $44.99 million, the project is located at 1220 N. 34th Ave., and is estimated to be completed on Jan. 31, 2025.

“Many low-income households across Arizona are cost burdened and spend more than half of their income on housing. Then these families must sacrifice healthy food or healthcare,” Jean Kalbacher, Home Matters Arizona Fund chair and CEO, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Arizona, stated. “Beyond a roof and walls, a home can help Arizonans improve their long-term health outcomes. These grants will go a long way to provide quality housing for families.”

The Home Matters Arizona Fund is born from a collaboration of the Arizona Association of Health Plans, whose member companies contract with the state’s Medicaid program to serve the health care needs of Arizona’s most vulnerable residents.

Founding Home Matters Arizona Fund participants include Arizona Complete Health, Banner–University Health Plan, Care1st Health Plan Arizona, Health Choice Arizona, Molina Healthcare of Arizona, Mercy Care, The NARBHA Institute and UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Arizona.
