Peterson: Sun City pickleball players going overboard on indoor push

Posted

Norm Dickson hit the nail on the head in his letter to the editor in the Nov. 29 issue of the Independent. There are several people on the board of directors, led by Vice President Karen McAdam, who are pushing for pickleball expansion at the expense of other members’ activities. Vice President McAdam, who is a Pickleball Club member, has pushed her agenda from the time she was elected to the board.

The latest indiscretion was at the latest Town Hall Meeting where Steve Oaks, another Pickleball Club member, moderated the meeting and championed an indoor, climate-controlled pickleball building. This plan was never approved by the Strategic Alternatives Committee.

I can agree that pickleball needs some additional courts. A plan was in place to convert the tennis courts at Lakeview to pickleball courts, but that was turned down in favor of trying to convert the Mountain View Rec Center into a pickleball center. The residents of Sun City will not support an indoor, climate-controlled building for pickleball. This board needs to consider the wants and needs of all the folks in Sun City, not just the agenda of the pickleball club.
