Maricopa County joins national pet adoption, donation campaign

Mesa, Phoenix facilities participate in 10th annual event

Maricopa County Animal Care & Control is part of a nationwide pet adoption and donation initiative, which has found homes for more than 1 million pets since it began in  2015.

Clear The Shelters is NBCUniversal Local’s campaign, which runs through Sept. 10, according to a release.

MCACC will join the initiative Sept. 7-8, waiving fees for all dogs six months and older.

“We are ecstatic and thankful to be part of the ‘Clear The Shelters’ Campaign and to be partnering with NBCUniversal and Telemundo for the tenth year in a row,” Kim Powell, MCACC’s communications supervisor, said.

“We are currently overcapacity at our East and West shelters, and we are positive that the ‘Clear the Shelters’ event will help combat the issue and help many dogs find their forever homes.”

Those interested in adopting a pet may visit MCACC’s East and West shelters at 2500 S. 27th Ave., Phoenix, and 1920 S. Lewis, Mesa.

Both shelters are open noon-6 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon-5p.m. on weekends. All adoptions include spay/neuter, microchip, and age-appropriate vaccinations.
