In honor of the 23rd anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, and remembrance of those who lost their lives, schools throughout Peoria Unified will hold commemorative events throughout the district.

Peoria Unified honors Patriot Day and National Day of Service

In honor of the 23rd anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, and remembrance of those who lost their lives, schools throughout Peoria Unified will hold commemorative events, including those listed below.

Centennial High School is hosting a service appreciation night on Friday, Sept. 13 at their home football game. Beginning at 6:30 p.m., first responders and military personnel will be honored at kickoff with a game ball presentation. Centennial High School is located at 14388 N. 79th Ave.

Desert Harbor Elementary School will hold their annual Walk of Honor at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11. The school choir and band will perform to welcome the community’s “Everyday Heroes” which include military, fire, police and paramedics. Then the heroes will take their walk of honor throughout the campus, receiving cheers from all students and staff throughout the hallways. Desert Harbor Elementary School is located at 15585 N. 91st Ave.

Frontier Elementary School will also hold the 23rd annual Heroes Luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11 for firefighters, police officers, first responders and military. Student Council will serve lunch as all music classes will perform for attendees. Every classroom will create a decorative poster in thanks to all community heroes. Frontier Elementary School is located at 21258 N. 81st Ave.

Lake Pleasant Elementary School will hold a school-wide assembly at 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11, providing students with speeches and videos to educate them on the importance of remembering 9/11. Former teacher, Mr. Jody Beltram, will share the history of our nation’s military flags. Lake Pleasant Elementary School is located at 31501 N. Westland Rd.
