A woman is expected to survive after she was shot in the face Saturday morning in Peoria near city hall, police said.

The incident occurred at about 2:30 a.m. Feb. 18 at the Peoria Municipal Complex, 8401 W. Monroe St.

Peoria Police Department Officer Brandon Sheffert said a 63-year-old woman was inside her vehicle in the parking lot when three men approached her.

The woman told police she was playing a game on her cell phone when the encounter occurred. The men told her to get out, with one of them holding a gun to her head. When she refused, the suspect shot her in the face.

The woman drove away and reached the intersection of 83rd Avenue and Washington Street in front of Fire Station No. 1 Lucidi Distilling Co., where she called the police.

The woman told police she does not know the men and she only described them as two black males and one Hispanic male. Officers located evidence in the parking lot of the City complex to confirm the woman's account.

Officers searched the area for the suspects but did not locate anyone. Peoria detectives are reviewing surveillance video from the complex to see if there is any usable footage.

The Peoria Fire-Medical Department transported the woman to the hospital in critical condition, but police said she is expected to survive. Police are continuing their investigation and will speak with the woman when she is able to.

Officers blocked the area near 83rd Avenue and Washington Street from the time of the incident until about 7:45 a.m.

Contact the Peoria Police Department at 623-773-8311 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS for any information on this incident.

Police advise residents to be extra vigilant and aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious activity to the Police.
