Police have released video of a shooting that occurred in Peoria early Saturday morning.

The Peoria Police Department’s investigation revealed new information regarding the shooting of a woman in the parking lot of Peoria Municipal Complex, 8401 W. Monroe St. on Feb. 18 at about 2:30 a.m.

Officers are seeking the public's assistance to identify the suspects.

According to a release, the 63-year-old female victim is still in the hospital. However, detectives spoke with her Tuesday, Feb. 21 to obtain more information.

The woman told detectives she was in the parking lot of the Peoria City Hall complex playing Pokémon Go on her cell phone when a male suspect approached her as she was seated in her Dodge Challenger. He asked her for directions. As she began talking with him, he removed a pistol from his waistband and ordered her out of her vehicle. As she attempted to drive away, the man shot her in the face.

The woman drove to the intersection of 83rd Avenue and Washington Street in front of Fire Station No. 1 Lucidi Distilling Co., where she contacted police.



The woman told police she saw three men around her vehicle during the incident. Surveillance video of the incident shows five people near or approaching the woman's car. She described the shooter as a Hispanic male, either 17 or 18 years old, about 5 feet 7 inches or shorter and about 140 pounds with a thin build. He was last seen wearing a plain white T-shirt, baggy blue jeans and black shoes.

She described two other suspects she noticed. One of them is a Hispanic male, 17 or 18 years old, about 5 feet 10 inches, about 200 pounds with an athletic build. He was last seen wearing a green Army type jacket and dark-colored jeans. The other suspect was a dark-complected Hispanic male, 17 or 18 years old, and last seen wearing white-colored painter's pants and a white painter's hat.

The woman did not see the other two suspects and was unable to provide a description. Peoria Police obtained surveillance video from city buildings which shows five people running away from the scene after one of them shot the woman.

A resident who lives near the complex said he worked late on his house and went to bed around 1 a.m. before the shooting occurred. He did not hear anything but woke up to an email from his wife. He said a neighbor on the corner of the street did not hear anything either but mentioned they know or have heard of people playing Pokémon late at night in the area.

Officer Sheffert said the department is encouraging its officers to spend extra time around the area.
