Ouch! Hot foot! What’s better for my yard than pavers?

Area homeowners discuss options for a cooler back yard in Arizona

It’s only 85 degrees and I already can’t walk on my red pavers … is there anything I can do? — Molly McAllister Skousen

Grassy

Grass is not popular but I have some and love it. I water it sparsely but Bermuda keeps going. The birds pick it for bugs daily. And my grandkids don’t burn their feet. I keep my water usage reasonable. Using much less than the giant lakes and canals in some neighborhoods. So, I say grass. Just a small amount. Good luck and happy gardening. — Louise M Mitchell

Turfed

Come on people ... duh, obviously shoes. But I’m sure it’s a real question trying to find something that’s a bit more comfortable. I agree that maybe an outdoor rug or maybe throw a piece of turf over them.Thania GT

Toasty

Flip flops to get to the pool. There’s no other direct way to the pool deck? Actually, even the pool deck will get toasty come summer. Robin Barrett Hoff

Shady

I’d jack hammer a hole and plant a tree. The more concrete we have, the hotter the whole city gets. Plus, trees offer shade and clean our dirty air.Megan MacHale

Decked

We just pulled up all the pavers in the backyard of our new house because of this. Luckily, there is pool deck underneath. Our toddlers and dog is so much happier. Keeping shoes on a toddler was a nightmare.Jackie Piasecki
