Newcomers & Neighbors of the Scottsdale Area invites new members

Posted

The club Newcomers & Neighbors of the Scottsdale Area provides an opportunity to socialize for both new and existing residents.

“Newcomer” means not just new to the area, but also new to retirement, marriage/divorce, widowhood or other lifestyle changes. Some members have been longtime local residents before joining, but found that meeting new people was not easy after such changes, a press release stated.

“All residents of the greater Scottsdale area who are interested in making friends and having fun are welcome” Robin Wargo, president of Newcomers & Neighbors of the Scottsdale Area, said in the release.

Club activities include various physical, social and intellectual pursuits. Among the most popular are food and beverage events such as “Nibbles ‘n Nosh,” “Wine Tasting,” “Appetizing Women” and “Men at Work in the Kitchen.”

There are also hiking, biking and golfing groups. Indoor activities include games (Mah Jongg, Euchre, Pinochle, Bridge), films, books and discussion groups.

The “One & Done” series of events has visits to cultural, commercial or artistic venues in the Phoenix metro, and the singles group goes to happy hours, tours, dinners and cultural events.

As more people from outside of Scottsdale have joined the club, the name has changed from Newcomers Club of Scottsdale to Newcomers & Neighbors of the Scottsdale Area. Members come from across the Phoenix metro. Current membership is over 400.

Most events are limited to members, but provide the opportunity for individuals to attend three events to find an interest in the club, such as an “Informational Coffee,” “Mix & Mingle Happy Hour” or one of the monthly luncheons.

A sample calendar of events is available on the club website.

The annual Spring Fling is April 30 and open to non-members.

Annual membership is $35 for up to two people in the same household.
