Drivers have been using a new route to reach Sky Habor Airport and other destinations after crews opened a westbound collector-distributor road as part of the Broadway Curve improvement project.
The road, which opened Aug. 19, must be used by drivers heading west on Interstate 10 and planning to exit at US 60, Broadway Road, State Route 143, 40th Street and the airport, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
There is also a dedicated lane from westbound US 60 to access the westbound collector-distributor road.
Drivers who are not exiting at US 60, Broadway Road, SR 143 or 40th Street, can stay on the westbound I-10 mainline or use the westbound CD road because it will eventually merge back with I-10 mainline traffic west of 40th Street, transportation officials said.
“The Arizona Department of Transportation realizes that the (collector-distributor) road is a new experience for Phoenix area drivers and encourages drivers to slow down and pay attention to signage so that they can navigate safely and efficiently through the I-10 Broadway Curve area,” ADOT officials stated in a release.
The I-10 Broadway Curve improvement project is an active construction work zone, and the speed limit throughout the project area, including the CD road, is 55 mph.
