A motorcyclist was transported to the hospital in serious condition after a traffic accident in Sun City West Friday afternoon, according to an MCSO spokesman.

The incident occurred before 2 p.m. near the intersection of Aurora and Paintbrush drives, northeast of the Hillcrest Golf Club.

According to Maricopa County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Joaquin Enriquez, the collision involved a single motorcycle. It was previously reported a passenger vehicle was involved.

"The call stated a motorcycle and and passenger vehicle had collided," Sgt. Enriquez states in an email. "Upon arrival detectives determined the accident was a signal vehicle accident."

Witnesses told detectives a 51-year-old male was south on Aurora Drive when his motorcycle went down.

"He was not wearing a helmet and suffered serious injuries," Sgt. Enriquez stated. "He was taken to a local hospital."

The man is from out of the state.

Speed and impairment are still under investigation and the man remains in critical condition.
