Mesa sailor commemorates 9/11 during naval ceremony

Posted

Jason Smith spoke Sept. 11 aboard the USS Boxer in a ceremony honoring those who died on 9/11.

Smith, a Mesa native and culinary specialist first class, addressed fellow crew members in a hangar bay during the remembrance which partly focused on the “strength, unity and resilience” on the day thousands perished in attacks on U.S. soil.

The Boxer, based in San Diego, is a Wasp-class amphibious assault ship.
