Mesa man charged in the shooting death of his stepfather

Posted

A 43-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of his stepfather, Mesa police said Friday.

Alexander Solano also faces several other charges in the death of Darryl Hynek, 61, including tampering with evidence and misconduct involving weapons, police said.

Hynek was found dead about 4:30 a.m. Sept. 7 inside a residence in the 3900 block of East Dorcas.

A caller told police she was in her bedroom when she heard “two loud bangs from the living room. When she walked to the living room, she found her husband Darryl deceased in his recliner,” according to a release.

Officers found the victim with gunshot wounds to his head.

Detectives learned that Solano lived in the residence, and the pair “had a rocky relationship and had recently argued over Alexander paying rent,” the release stated.

“As the investigation continued, information revealed that Alexander had made some vague statements about possibly being involved in Darryl’s death to a family member.”

Detectives found Solano inside his vehicle later in the day. Police said he admitted to shooting Hynek.
