Meet the state representative candidates for District 22

Betsy Munoz

Munoz — a Democrat— lists improving public education, affordable housing and fair wages among the issues that are important to her campaign, according to wevote.us.
She is a clean elections candidate where she doesn’t take funding from corporations or special interest groups.
An Arizona native, Munoz is a west Phoenix resident and holds a bachelor’s degree in public service and public policy from Arizona State University.
She currently works for Be A Leader Foundation — where she helps high school students find a pathway to college.

Elda Luna-Nájera

Luna-Nájera — a Democrat— is a “first-generation Mexican-American whose parents were immigrants” from Mexico, according to a press release from the Arizona House Democrats.
She is the president of the Tolleson High School District School Board.
“With Dr. Luna-Nájera, our caucus returns to full strength, but more importantly we gain another powerful voice for public education,” said House Democratic Leader Lupe Contreras in the press release. “She also has tremendous experience working with families who are struggling, who experiencing homelessness. Those issues are front and center right now and her expertise will benefit our caucus, her constituents and our entire state.”

Lupe Chavira Contreras

Contreras is a native of Phoenix who is the minority leader in the Arizona State House of Representatives. A Democrat — he is an active member of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed officials, according to the Arizona State Legislature website.
“The West Valley has always been home to both my wife and I and is something that we hold close to our hearts,” Contreras
said on the Arizona State Legislature website. “My family roots in the West Valley go back to before my parents were born and when my Grandparents were young. Growing up, I’ve been able to see the growth that all the West Valley towns have gone though.”

Jen Wynne

Wynne — a Democrat — is running for a seat in the the Arizona State House of Representatives.

Diana Jones

Jones — a Republican — has lived in Arizona since 2013 and is a former military member, according to https://ld22republicans.com/
“I retired from 25 years civil service and 20 years in the (U.S. Air Force) reserves to be a stay-at-home mom,” the website said. “During my 25 years (in) civil service, (I’ve) worked at the IRS, the (U.S.) Navy and the (U.S.) Air Force.”

Blaine “Bj” Griffin

Griffin is a Republican running for a seat in the the Arizona State House of Representatives.
