Man sentenced to 10 years for fatal 2018 crash in Glendale

A man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for a fatal crash in Glendale back in 2018.

Vincent Kaven Trevino, 24, was sentenced Friday after pleading guilty to a 2nd-degree murder charge, according to minute entries filed in Maricopa County court.

Police had arrested Mr. Trevino in connection with the collision that killed David Garcia on Dec. 5, 2018 near Dysart Road and Northern Avenue. Authorities determined that Mr. Trevino failed to stop at a red light and struck the back of Mr. Garcia’s vehicle. Mr. Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene.

Court documents stated Mr. Trevino had a blood alcohol concentration between 0.24 and 0.27. He had been taken to the hospital but then released pending charges. He later turned himself in at the end of January 2019.

He was re-arrested Jan. 30, 2020 on the second-degree murder charge. He had initially been charged with manslaughter.

Mr. Garcia’s wife Sarah told the Daily Independent that their family was in the process of moving from El Mirage to Glendale.
