Versagi: We should take all shootings seriously, not just Trump’s

Posted

Yes, it is extraordinarily sad and disturbing that past-President Trump was shot.

What is more disturbing is the reporting jargon around how “inappropriate this is in American politics.” How it can’t be allowed to occur to “political candidates” and what an affront to democracy the shooting is.

However, is this shooting any more significant than the hundreds of innocent people killed by guns every year in America? Are the parents of the dreadful Sandy Hook grade school shooting or the victims of the other school shootings any less worthy of our attention and grief?

Simply because the latest (and most public) victim of gun violence happens to be a political figure should not hold any more weight in our eyes than the “simple everyday” victims who are killed.

Gun violence is gun violence. No matter which celebrity — or commoner — is on the receiving end of the bullet.
