The Kyrene Elementary School District has received the Meritorious Budget Award from the Association of School Business Officials International for fiscal year 2023-24.
Kyrene is the only district in Arizona to receive the award for the second year in a row. Nationally, fewer than 150 districts earn the award each year. Kyrene is the first Arizona district to earn the award in more than a decade, according to a release.
“This report is more than numbers. It really tells the story of how Kyrene’s resources are aligned with educational outcomes,” Kyrene Superintendent Laura Toenjes said.
“We are educating future leaders, creators and community contributors. The stakes are high, and accountability and transparency are critical.”
ASBO International’s MBA recognizes excellence in school budget policies, practices and presentation, the release stated.
To qualify for the award, districts must develop a budget report that is “comprehensive, analytical and demonstrates sound fiscal management.”
