I-17 section north of Valley reopens after crews haul away 70,000-pound beam

Northbound Interstate 17 reopened early Monday morning north of Black Canyon City after crews spent all night removing a 70,000-pound beam from an oversize load that overturned Saturday, state transportation officials said.

The Arizona Department of Transportation closed the lanes so crews could lift and haul away the beam with cranes and other heavy equipment and then clean up the roadway.

The site is at milepost 247 near Bumble Bee Road, about 3 miles north of Black Canyon City, on the winding northbound climb to Sunset Point.
