Special to Independent Newsmedia
Buckeye is the place to be when early dove hunting season opens.
Everything gets underway the morning of Friday, Sept. 1.
According to a city press release, the Robbins Butte, Powers Butte and Arlington wildlife areas offer fields that flocks of mourning and white-winged doves find attractive. Dove and other small game species show high population numbers, which means more opportunities for hunters and wildlife viewers.
The Arizona Game and Fish Department and their partners have been working to increase the dove population through several projects implemented at Robbins Butte, like more than 200 acres in crop production of wheat, barley, oats and milo.
A mentored youth dove hunt for ages 10 to 17 takes place Saturday, Sept. 2 at Robbins Butte starting at 4:30 a.m. Click here to register.
