Goodyear's on-demand transportation service innovation earns honor

WeRIDE app-based program joins Avondale, Surprise in award

The city of Goodyear's WeRIDE micro transit program is the recipient of the WESTMARC Excellence in Innovation Award.

WeRIDE, an app-based ride-booking service, was launched in Goodyear in October 2022 to add an affordable way to travel around the city. WeRIDE operates much like popular, private, on-demand services. Trips can be booked through an app, by phone or online. The service pairs multiple passengers heading in the same direction in a single vehicle.

The award celebrates WeRIDE's commitment to innovation and its impact on the West Valley. It also recognizes WeRIDE for increasing accessibility to transit services, enhancing the quality of life in the community and contributing to the region's sustainable growth.

WeRIDE also won the Maricopa Association of Government Livable Community award at the 36th Annual Champions for Clean Air Awards Ceremony. This award recognizes agencies who have made a special effort to improve transit, bicycle, or pedestrian facilities that make communities more livable.

“These awards are a testament to our collective resolve to bring transit to the West Valley through new and innovative programs such as WeRIDE,” Councilmember Bill Stipp shared in a press release. “The Goodyear City Council is committed to meeting the needs of our residents while remaining steadfast to our fiscally conservative policies.”

Goodyear received the awards, along with the cities of Avondale and Surprise who also have the WeRIDE service and have been valuable program partners.

"The WeRide program is meeting one of the most important community needs - mobility," WESTMARC President and CEO Sintra Hoffman stated. "WeRIDE is the perfect solution to meet a universal need of our region, from teens to seniors, providing convenient transportation on a personalized schedule.”
