Glendale veterans memorial turns 20

Sculpture outside main library honors those who serve

Twenty years ago, local artist Joe Tyler completed his sculpture work as a memorial to veterans everywhere.

The work, entitled “For Every Drop of Blood,” remains prominently on display outside the Glendale Public Library, 5959 W. Brown St., and includes actual pieces from the sunken USS Arizona.

“My goal, as an artist, was to create a special place, a peaceful setting and to create a mood suitable to honor every drop of blood and every life devoted to the cause of liberty for American citizens,” reads a mounted plaque with Mr. Tyler’s words.
