Glendale police arrested a man Monday night for a sexual assault offense earlier this month, according to a release.

On March 20, Glendale Police Department Detectives arrested Jorge Lopez Nunez, 26, at his Glendale residence in the 8100 block of N. 61st Avenue.

Detectives determined him to have been involved in the sexual assault of a woman on March 11 at about 2:50 a.m.

That morning, residents from an apartment complex reported hearing screams of a woman in the complex, according to a release. Glendale patrol officers responded and checked a possible location. They located the female victim, who resided in a different building.

She told police she woke up in her home with Nunez pulling her down her bed towards him. According to a release, Nunez kept the woman from seeing his face during the entire incident by physically forcing her to look away from him. She attempted to fight back and get away from Nunez, causing injuries and ripping off buttons from his shirt.

Detectives developed probable cause for Nunez's arrest, obtaining and serving search warrants on Nunez for biological evidence and other items. Detectives recovered the clothing the victim described the suspect wearing during the incident.

Nunez was booked into a Maricopa County jail and charged with three felony counts: one count of sexual assault, one count of 2nd degree burglary and one count of kidnapping.
