A man has died after a vehicle collision in Glendale early Friday morning, according to police.
The incident involved two vehicles with one person in each and occurred at about 12:30 a.m. near 59th Avenue and Cactus Road.
According to a release, the male driver of a grey 4-door sedan was traveling southbound on N. 59th Avenue when he was struck by a black 2-door coupe. Police identified the driver of the sedan as 29-year-old Anthony Parra of Glendale. Parra was pronounced dead due his injuries.
Glendale Police Vehicular Crimes Detectives determined the black coupe, being driven by 28-year-old male, was traveling westbound on Cactus Road through the intersection.
Police are checking the driver of the coupe for speed and impairment.
The Vehicular Crimes Detectives will continue to investigate the incident to determine if any other factors contributed to the accident.
Police blocked off the area between 51st and 67th avenues, and Thunderbird Road and Peoria Avenue from the time officers arrived until later in the morning. The immediate intersection remained closed until about 11:20 a.m., according to a tweet from the department.
Peoria Unified School District spokeswoman Danielle Airey stated in an email that the collision delayed some people reaching Ironwood High School, though an exact number was not known.
