Glendale faces ‘one-time’ opportunity to aid homelessness

Community Services Department pitches CARES Act-funded program

Some in Glendale believe the city has an opportunity to make a real push in the battle against having the West Valley’s largest homeless community. Timing is everything, however.

The Community Services Department pitched what Director Jean Moreno calls a pilot program to curb homelessness by devoting $3.2 million of a one-time grant fund through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act to target affordable housing and homeless services.

The $2 trillion economic CARES Act relief package, signed into law in March, provides help from the public health and economic impacts of COVID-19.
