Glendale businesses to get head start on Kwanzaa celebration

Posted

A number of Glendale businesses will take part in the winter celebration of Kwanzaa starting this month.

The Black Business Owners Coalition of Glendale is helping introduce to some and reintroduce to others the Kwanzaa celebration.

While Kwanzaa takes place from Tuesday, Dec. 26 through Monday, Jan. 1, some businesses are starting early to showcase the holiday season to the community.

The celebration will take place at the business location of each merchant and will range anywhere from a free community Thanksgiving meal that will highlight Kwanzaa to a children’s coloring station where kids can color their very own Kwanzaa picture.

Here is a list of the participating Glendale businesses and their celebrations:

  • Sun Valley Tax, 6610 N. 47th Ave., Suite 11. From 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov 22, a free Thanksgiving meal highlighting Kwanzaa will be available to the first 120 people courtesy of The AZ Kosher Pantry.
  • The Pink Door Tea House, 7153 N. 59th Ave. From Friday, Nov 24 until supplies last “3 Teas from South Africa” will be added to their menu.
  • Papa Ed's Ice Cream, 7146 N. 58th Ave. (located in the garden area behind Packer Family Photography). From Friday, Nov 24 until supplies last, guests can purchase a unique hand designed Kwanzaa button.
  • Starbucks, 8251 W. Union Hills Drive, Suite 100. Between Monday, Nov. 27 and Monday, Dec. 4, look for a children’s coloring station.
  • Fastest Labs, 5041 W. Northern Ave., Suite C. From Monday, Nov. 27 through Monday, Dec. 4, will be offering discounts on a line of new testing products.
  • All Glendale public libraries. Between Monday, Nov. 27 and Friday, Jan. 5, Kwanzaa, Christmas and Hanukkah arts and crafts will be available.
