Doris Cruger Dale

Doris Dale of Fountain Hills, Arizona died on April 8, at the age of 96. She was born in Madison, Wisconsin on July 22, 1927, the daughter of Anna Wipperfurth and Victor Cruger. She attended Holy Redeemer Catholic School and graduated from Central High School. She held a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and a master’s degree in library science from the University of Wisconsin, and a doctoral degree in library science from Columbia University in New York City. In 1970, the American Library Association published her United Nations Library: Its Origins and Development. She was married to Richard Dale on August 18, 1967. She taught library science at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and had visiting appointments at the University of Wisconsin, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Texas Women’s University. She and her husband retired to Fountain Hills, where she taught line dancing at the Senior Center for seventeen years and was active in the Desert Beekeepers, a book club that was devoted to Sherlock Holmes, the British detective. She was a member of the Church of the Ascension in Fountain Hills. She is survived by her four nieces and three nephews. Her brother Lloyd Cruger and her sister Mary
Cruger predeceased her. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in the Church of the Ascension on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at 11:00 AM, with Fr. John McDonough officiating. Burial will be in the Resurrection Cemetery in Madison, Wisconsin following the funeral.
