Doblander: Concerns with Goodyear airport, traffic

Posted

I wanted to comment on the article regarding the noise from Goodyear airport.

I know that the FAA and the Phoenix airport came back with statistics of how and where planes should fly. But some of those stats should be changed in my opinion because the height they’re flying is still very noisy.

My husband and I have lived on 157th Drive since 2011 which is close to the airport. When we purchased this home, we were told that the Goodyear airport was not a functioning airport and only repaired planes. Every once in a while pipers would fly overhead. It really didn’t bother us because it was not very often.

Forward to present, the air traffic has exploded. We have gone to meetings, but nothing changes. There was a week when I was sick and wasn’t getting enough sleep. On those mornings when the planes were flying over, I couldn’t rest because of the “constant” flying.

There are many times we are sitting outside, playing music, just relaxing and we can’t hear each other over the noise. It’s so frustrating that one night I broke down crying and said, “I thought this would be our ‘forever home’, but I wish we hadn’t put the money into the remodel because I really want to get out of here!”

The first few years we were here was great, a little rural but we liked the community feel. After a few years residents were asking for more restaurants and a few more amenities, we were told there were not enough people.

Now, in just two years Goodyear has exploded to a ridiculous level in my opinion. There’s not a patch of land that is not being built on. Apartments, homes and industrial buildings are everywhere! Now you might say what does that have to do with the Goodyear airport?

So now, we not only have to endure noise from the planes flying overhead, but loud mufflers and cars flooding the streets.

The problem with all this is we are the taxpayers, and we are not given any say in what is being built around us. You go to council meetings and are told, this is progress ... progress for who?

Not the residents, they’re the ones that are paying the price. The companies and council members are passing it all through with no input from us until after it is done.

I’d like for someone to sit at our home for a morning, an afternoon and evening to hear the noise we are forced to endure for days on end. But, I’m convinced with all the information I read from In Focus and the Independent that they just don’t care..

Just pay your taxes and vote for all the increases on the ballot to cover it all.
