Coach Darrell “Coach Red” Redmond has been appointed the new head coach of the Apache Junction High School girls’ basketball program.

Redmond has 18 years of coaching experience, a deep love for the game and a commitment to the growth and success of Apache Junction Unified School District’s student-athletes, according to a release.

His journey in basketball began as a player at Odessa Community College in Texas, where he honed his skills and gained valuable insights from a player’s perspective. This experience served as the foundation for his deep understanding of the sport. He continued his journey at Missouri Southern State University, where he played for an additional two years, further enriching his connection to basketball, the release states.

His experiences as a player have molded Redmond into the dedicated mentor he is today, emphasizing the values of teamwork, discipline and an unwavering pursuit of excellence. AJHS is thrilled to welcome him to guide the girls on their basketball journey and is looking forward to an exciting season under his leadership, it states.

“We are delighted to have Coach Red join the AJHS family,” Lisa Ginn, principal at Apache Junction High School, said. “His wealth of experience and dedication to the game will undoubtedly have a positive impact on our team, and we look forward to an exceptional season ahead.”
