D1 Training opens in Gilbert, set for grand opening event

D1 Training, a fitness concept utilizing the five core tenets of athletic-based training, opened a new location in Gilbert at 1551 E. Elliot Road on July 31.

The group fitness facility employs a sports-science backed training regimen led by certified trainers to help people of all ages achieve their sport and fitness goals.

In celebration of the new location’s launch, the facility will have a grand opening event on Aug. 12, which will feature local vendors on-site and food trucks. The Val Vista D1 Training is a 5,000-square-foot space with six Sorinex Racks, treadmills, bikes, rowers, Dashr laser times, and an indoor turf measuring 25 yards by 15 yards.

Former Arizona Cardinal Kylie Fitts and his wife Kaylina are the franchisees and owners, joining some other professional athletes such as Super Bowl MVP Von Miller, Tim Tebow and Michael Oher. Fitts was an NFL linebacker for four seasons.

Before he moved to Arizona, first for the NFL, and now for Gilbert’s D1 Training, Fitts was a D1 athlete at the University of Utah. After college, Fitts was drafted by the Chicago Bears and played with them for one year before moving back west to Phoenix to play for the Cardinals.

His professional football career ended in 2022 after a few serious concussions pushed him to an early retirement at 27. He and Kaylina continue to call Arizona home and are excited to see their twin daughters grow up alongside their business.

“I used to train at the D1 facility in Scottsdale during the offseason, and something about D1’s offerings and its mission inspired me to bring this to my own community where I see young athletes and adults looking for this kind of training,” Fitts said in a press release. “Football has been something I’ve loved my whole life, but I have always known I wanted to give back to the communities that have supported me in my journey to a professional career in sports. This is my chance to help someone else get to where they want to be."

D1 Val Vista offers four age-based programs including Rookie (ages 7-11), Developmental (ages 12-14), Prep (ages 15-18) and D1 Adult. Each fitness program is based on the five athletic-based tenets: dynamic warm-up, performance, strength program, core and conditioning, and cool down.

Outside of group workouts, D1 Training offers one-on-one training with  coaches. The goal is to continue to train athletes who are dedicated to their sport or their fitness goals, regardless of age or athletic background.

D1 Training has more than 85 performance centers open with more than 200 additional locations in development. The brand is seeking qualified and active community members to expand its footprint and help more people meet their fitness goals.
