D-backs add catcher, designate Kennedy for assignment

Posted

The Arizona Diamondbacks made two roster moves Wednesday.

Entering Wednesday’s matinee game at home against Colorado one game behind in the NL Wild Card chase, the D-backs claimed catcher Seby Zavala off waivers from the Chicago White Sox.

The 30-year-old right-hander has  appeared in 66 games (65 as catcher) this season with the White Sox, collecting three doubles, seven homers and 16 RBIs while drawing 10 walks.

Since July 2021, Zavala caught a White Sox franchise-high five one-hitters. Zavala was originally selected by the White Sox in the 12th round of the 2015 draft out of San Diego State.

Also Wednesday, the D-backs designated infielder Buddy Kennedy for assignment.

The D-backs’ 40-man roster is at 40.
