Cracker Barrel, Whole Foods top Surprise Retail Survey

Annual results were delayed because of COVID-19

Cracker Barrel and Whole Foods Market have moved to the top of the charts for the most-desired restaurant and retailer, respectively, according to the new Surprise Retail Survey.

The city of Surprise released results July 19 that showed Cracker Barrel, Cheesecake Factory and P.F. Chang’s China Bistro as the top three desired restaurants, among more than 4,000 residents who took the survey in the spring.

Whole Foods was followed by Hobby Lobby and Aldi as the top three retail stores Surprise residents want here.

The survey also found residents’ favorite current restaurant is Oregano’s Pizza Bistro, 16914 W. Bell Road and favorite current retailer is Son Glow Boutique, 11294 W. Bell Road.

Results of the survey would have normally been released months ago, but COVID-19 recovery conditions have kept the city’s Economic Development Department busy.

The survey data will be used for the city to identify its strengths, as well as opportunities to bring additional amenities here.

Past surveys have helped attract establishments such as In-N-Out Burger, Oregano’s Pizza Bistro and Costco.

Rounding out the top ten desired restaurants are El Pollo Loco

BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse, Portillo’s, Claim Jumper, Dillon’s Kansas City BBQ, Pita Jungle and Bobby-Q BBQ.

Of the top ten desired retailers, finishing out the list are JoAnn’s Fabrics, AJ’s Fine Foods, TJ Maxx, Home Goods, Total Wine & More, Old Navy and Bath & Body Works.

After Oregano’s on the current favorite restaurant list, residents listed Babbo Italian Eatery, 16433 W. Bell Road, Vogue Bistro, 15411 W. Wadell Road, Saigon Kitchen, 14071 W. Bell Road, and Rio Mirage Cafe, 13863 W. Bell Road, as their next favorities.

Rounding out the top 10 are State 48 Brewery, 13823 W. Bell Road, Angry Crab Shack, 11340 W. Bell Road, Nick’s Diner II, 13765 N. Litchfield Road, Big Buddha Restaurant, 16572 W. Greenway Road, and Bonfire Craft Kitchen & Tap House, 15332 W. Bell Road.

Following Son Glow on the favorite retailers are PinkaBella Cupcakes, which has since closed its retail location, Joe Streckfuss Plumbing, 11340 W. Bell Road, Kimbur Pet Wash & Suites, 17031 W. Bell Road, and Surprise Comics, 14763 W. Cactus Road.

Finishing the retailer top 10 is Musical Surprise, 16846 W. Bell Road, Gifts to Go, 11430 W. Bell Road, Rocket Fizz, 13681 N. Litchfield Road, Spencer’s Place, 15341 W. Waddell Road, and Dale’s Town and Country, 14320 W. Waddell Road.

“The Surprise Economic Development team will now use the results to guide their retail recruitment efforts,” city officials wrote in a news release.
