Courtney: We all must do our part to report Medicare fraud

Posted

This is regarding the letter from Phyllis Roach in the Aug.24, 2022 issue of the Sun City Independent titled “Check your medicare bills for problems.”

Ms. Roach is correct that all consumers should check their health insurance explanation of benefits documents to make sure charges are accurate.

Beyond that, the scenario described by Ms. Roach in her letter sounds like billing fraud.

The items for which Medicare was billed on her behalf are DME (durable medical equipment) and there is substantial fraud activity around DME that Medicare is constantly fighting.

Ms. Roach, if you are reading this, I encourage you (and any other person seeing such activity on their EOB), to gather your information and report this incident to Medicare. The fraud hotline for reaching Medicare is 800-633-4227.

We are all paying for this type of fraud; we can help Medicare by reporting it when we see it happening.
