Copple: All candidates must share climate views

Posted

I’m a grandfather who just wants a livable future for me and my generation.

I am writing to you today to ask your paper to press the candidates running in Arizona’s Senate, congressional and governor’s races to clearly state their positions on the climate crisis and how they plan to deal with the emergency.

According to the Yale Climate Opinion Survey, 72% of folks in Arizona believe in the scientific reality of the climate crisis (and 66% are actively worried), while 77% think our public schools should be teaching global warming.

We have lost 1.4 million acres to wildfires in the past two years. We are in the 27th year of long-term drought. According to the Rhodium Group, six Arizona counties will soon be uninhabitable.

What are these politicians prepared to do to confront the emergency before us? The public has a right to know.

I beg you to get clarity from Arizona’s candidates.
