McAdam grandparents in Sun City

Posted 7/27/23

What is something many people don’t know about you? At one point in my life, I had memorized three books of the New Testament in English and one in German. I can still recite the first several paragraphs of the Declaration of Independence.

McAdam grandparents in Sun City

Posted

Karen McAdam, like many Sun City residents, came to Sun City to enjoy retirement.

But she also wanted to be involved in her community. She is active in various clubs and decided to be a part of the decision-makers. She was elected to the Recreation Centers of Sun City Board of Directors. After an interrupted first term, she ran again last year and was elected again.

McAdam is also serving on the RCSC Strategic Alternatives Committee, which was charged with finding other options for the Mountain View Center, 9749 N. 107th Ave., rebuild project.

She was an educator and continues to impart knowledge to students in Sunday school and as a substitute teacher.

What is something many people don’t know about you? At one point in my life, I had memorized three books of the New Testament in English and one in German. I can still recite the first several paragraphs of the Declaration of Independence.

How did you get into your career? I’d wanted to become a teacher since I was in first grade.

What originally brought you to the Valley? Elder care.

At the end of the day, what brings you the most joy? The love of my family and the sense that I’ve made a contribution to others.

What advice would you give to people entering your field? Teach your students to know, love and practice that which is true, good and beautiful.

How are you involved in the local community? I’m vice president of the Recreation Centers of Sun City Board of Directors, a Sunday school teacher, a high school substitute, a novice wood-worker and an avid pickleball player.

What are the biggest challenges you see in your community? Limiting oneself to a reasonable number of activities!

What is your most quirky talent? My Duo Lingo Norwegian streak is almost 300 days long.

Character trait you’re most proud of? Love of learning.

How do you define success? “Well done, good and faithful servant,” spoken by the only one who really matters.
