Community invited to celebrate life, legacy of Chompie’s matriarch

The Borenstein family, founder of Chompie’s restaurants, invites the community to celebrate the life of Lovey Borenstein on Sunday.
Borenstein, who died recently, would have been 90 on April 22, according to a release.
The event to honor her will take place 3-5 p.m. April 21 at Chompie’s Phoenix location at Cactus Road and 32nd Street. Guests are welcome to share their stories of Borenstein and Chompie’s and enjoy appetizers and desserts.
"Lovey loved everyone. Our one-of-a-kind mother, grandmother and great-grandmother was the heart and soul of Chompie’s.
"In her more than 40 years presiding over Chompie’s, she was renowned for making each and every customer, employee, vendor and supporter feel like they were a member of our family,” Frank Lara, a 42-year employee of Chompie’s.
