Community forum on fentanyl crisis coming to Avondale

The Maricopa County Attorney's Office, in partnership with the city of Avondale's ONE (Opioid and Narcotics Education) program, will host a community event addressing the urgent matter of fentanyl addiction in Maricopa County.

"Fighting Fentanyl Together" – a community forum – starts at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14 at the Avondale Council Chambers, 11495 W. Civic Center Drive.

Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell will lead a panel of experts who will provide insights and essential resources for the community amidst the ongoing fentanyl crisis.

The panel will feature Jeffrey Beaver, Maricopa County Attorney’s Office drug enforcement bureau chief; Lieutenant Manuel Rios, Avondale Police Department patrol bureau; Stephanie Siete, Community Bridges, Inc. public information officer; and Todd Clever, M.D., Banner Estrella Medical Center medical director.

“I’ve spoken one-on-one with parents who have lost their kids to this poison. It is gut-wrenching to hear them talk about having a conversation with a child one evening, only to find that child gone the next morning,” Mitchell shared in a press release. “We will keep prosecuting these cases and trying to get young people into appropriate diversion programs to keep them alive. But more than that, we absolutely must continue to fight to get this information in front of parents.”

This event is free. Spanish translation will be available.

Naloxone, a life-saving medication to counteract opioid overdoses, will be distributed after the event. The event will also be live-streamed at https://www.avondaleaz.gov/government/public-meetings/fentanyl-forum.
