City-owned downtown Glendale parcels eyed for sale, development

Vacant storefronts, parking lots along 58th Avenue under consideration

Some city-owned parcels in Historic Downtown Glendale could be on the selling block for future development.

The fate of a couple vacant buildings, four parking lots, and two other empty lots mostly along 58th Avenue just north of Grand Avenue, will be among the discussion at a 12:30 p.m. city council workshop on Tuesday, June 28.

This past December the city elected to move forward with the $70 million Downtown Campus Reinvestment project, which will completely renovate a number of downtown locations, including nearby City Hall, Murphy Park, and the city council chambers. The city says since that announcement, “interest in acquiring and developing property in Downtown Glendale has increased.”
