A man arrested in connection with the shooting of three Chandler officers was jailed in lieu of a $3 million bond, according to records.

Rigoberto Polanco Jimenez, 35, was identified as the suspect in Monday's hourslong incident in Chandler.

Police said Mr. Jimenez shot and injured three officers, who are now recovering at home, according to the department.

Police said the man was taken into custody shortly before 1 p.m. to end an incident that began 12 hours earlier when officers on patrol spotted and confronted a suspicious person near Chandler Boulevard and Delaware Street.

The man ran and then turned around and fired several shots. Police said one officer was treated and released from a hospital for a lower body injury.

The second shooting occurred about 7 a.m. when police saw officers tracked the suspect to a home near Arizona Avenue and Galveston Street when the man again fired shots.

According to records, six officers were inside the home and found Mr. Jimenez in the bathroom when he allegedly fired at them. Police said two officers were hit, but the bullets didn't penetrate their body armor.

One of the officers suffered a cut to the back of the head and was taken to a hospital for treatment. Records state at least three officers had returned fire at some point during the incident.

The officers evacuated the house but surrounded it and continued ordering the suspect to exit. However, just before noon, a fire started inside the house, resulting in a total loss of the property, records state.

Police said the suspect managed to escape and fled to a nearby apartment complex, where he allegedly caused extensive damage. He eventually exited and was taken into custody.

According to records, Mr. Jimenez admitted to involvement in the incidents, saying he did not realize the first victim was an officer. However, he described shooting at the officer intentionally and ran away.

Police learned Mr. Jimenez was connected to a shooting on April 24, records state. The victim in that case identified Mr. Jimenez as the shooter.

Court documents state that the damage caused was estimated at well over $100,000.

Mr. Jimenez was booked on charges of attempted second-degree murder, arson, aggravated assault, endangerment, discharge of a firearm and criminal damage.
