Chandler elementary students given 830 new bicycles

Posted

South Carolina-based nonprofit organization Going Places recently partnered with the DeeAnn Flores Schertz Foundation and several Chandler organizations to gift each student at Hartford Sylvia Encinas Elementary School their own bicycles, according to a news release.

Affectionately named “The Blessing” in tribute to DeeAnn Flores Schertz, the unveiling involved 830 bikes.

Flores Schertz was a devoted teacher and “guardian angel” to many at Hartford Encinas Elementary, according to the release, and is remembered fondly. The unveiling event not only commemorated what would have been Flores Schertz’ 60th birthday but also honors the anniversary of her passing.

The release said the display of kindness embodies her lifelong commitment to spreading joy and meeting the needs of her Hartford students.
