Celebrating Parks and Recreation Month in Peoria

Posted

July is Parks and Recreation Month.

This month the city of Peoria is celebrating parks, trails and open spaces with the National Recreation and Park Association’s theme: “We Rise Up for Parks and Recreation!”

The purpose is to bring attention to how important it is to rise up and support parks and recreation professionals and all they do for the overall health and well being of communities.

Peoria is home to 36 neighborhood parks and three large community parks that offer a variety of amenities such as fishing lakes, dog parks, multi-purpose fields, playgrounds, and public art. Additionally, Peoria has 35 miles of shared-use pathways, 25 miles of mountain trails, and over 3,000 acres of mountain recreational open space and recreation facilities.

Residents are invited to share their experiences and memories about Peoria parks and recreation staff and facilities on social media, tagging the city on Facebook at @PeoriaAZRec, Twitter at @PeoriaAZ and Instagram at @peoriaazcam.

For information on Peoria’s parks and trails, visit www.peoriaaz.gov/parks.
