At about 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 22, the Surprise Police Department investigated a traffic collision on the eastbound lane of Bell Road west of Grand Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers discovered two vehicles involved. A spokesperson said one person occupied each vehicle. One of the vehicles initially caught fire, but Surprise Fire-Medical Department quickly extinguished it.

Fire officials transported on of the drivers to a local area hospital for treatment.

Officials blocked one or two lanes in each direction on Bell Road while police investigated the cause of the collision and removed the vehicles from the road.
