Buckeye mom tried to shoot herself after son shot, killed
Posted
Buckeye police took a woman labeled a person of interest in her son’s death into custody Monday afternoon after she was released from the hospital.
On Dec. 18, at about 3 p.m., Buckeye Police Department arrested Alyssa Pettibone when she was discharged from the hospital.

Police said she was found with stab wounds last Friday in a home near Watson and Yuma roads in Buckeye. Along with her, officers found a 2-year-old boy with at least one gunshot wound. Fire personnel declared him dead at the scene.
Court documents show Ms. Pettibone tried to kill herself with the same gun that killed her son. However, the next bullet was loaded backward in the magazine.
A probable cause statement said Ms. Pettibone’s mother told officers her daughter had shot her son and then tried to kill herself.
Police said Ms. Pettibone was found with several stab wounds believed to be self-inflicted.
Ms. Pettibone was booked into the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Fourth Avenue Jail on a second-degree murder charge.
Her bond was set at $750,000. It’s unclear if she has a lawyer yet.
On Tuesday Dec. 19, the family of the 2-year-old boy gave police permission to release his name, identifying him as Hudson Pettibone.
