Bryce: AJUSD terminated building lease for Zao Theatre, Centerstage Church

Posted

Dear friends: I wanted to make you aware of something.

On Thursday, Nov. 11, the Apache Junction school system terminated our lease for the building we occupy.

This was a complete shock to all of us at Centerstage Church and Zao Theatre, and we were recoiling from the news as we began to play our third weekend.

We do not have many details yet but the following steps have been taken:

  • Our spring shows, Frost/Nixon, and Oliver have been postponed until a new location is secured.
  • It is our intention to continue once a new location is secured. We don’t have a timetable, except ASAP.
  • Once we begin to move, we will need everyone’s help. All of our theatrical equipment, props, costumes, etc… are ours and will go with us. It will be a move for the ages for sure. For now, we need help organizing and making things ready for the move. If you can help, we will need it soon.
  • This coming Saturday looks like the final theatrical performance in our current space. That makes it a rather special night, and this a rather special show. Once the announcement hits, some of our former cast members might want to be there that night.

The overall message is this: Centerstage Church/Zao Theatre will rise from these ashes to continue to produce great theatre with great people. And because nothing surprises God, we will wait for His answer with excitement and anticipation, and we will give Him the credit when we have that answer.

Editor’s note: Michael E. “Mickey” Bryce is the pastor at Centerstage Church and artistic director at Zao Theatre, both at the old Superstition Mountain Elementary School building at 550 S. Ironwood Drive in Apache Junction.
