Blind athletes competing in Phoenix this weekend

Southwest Regional Goalball Qualifier runs Friday-Sunday

The U.S. Association of Blind Athletes is hosting its Southwest Regional Goalball Qualifier this weekend in Phoenix.

From Friday, Jan. 19 through Sunday, Jan. 21, at the Ability 360 Sports & Fitness Center, at 5031 E. Washington St., will feature six men's teams and four women's teams competing.

Two Paralympians are on the rosters for this weekend's event, including three-time Paralympian Daryl Walker (Jacksonville, Florida) and Tokyo Paralympians Zach Buhler (Huntington, Indiana).

The competition runs from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday; 8 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. Saturday; and 8 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Sunday. The medal matches are slated to begin at 9:15 a.m. on Sunday.
