Spenser Watkins’ long pro journey culminates with call to ‘The Show’

The last day of June is a day one former Glendale Community College pitcher will never forget.

Spenser Watkins, the righty who pitched for the Gauchos for two springs, in 2011 and 2012, was called up to Major League Baseball by the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday. The Orioles called him up from Triple-A Norfolk, where he was 1-2 with a 3.68 ERA in seven games for the Tides this season.

The 28-year-old Phoenix native prepped at Scottsdale’s Horizon High School.
